When a dryer vent becomes clogged with excess lint and the running dryer starts getting warm, the lint can catch fire, and lint is one of the most combustable materials, so making sure that your dryer vent stays clean is important in preventing house fires caused by lint in the vents.

There are several warning signs that you should look for when trying to detect if your dryer vent has a clog.

• The time it takes to dry your clothing. If your dryer vent is taking significantly longer than normal to dry your clothes that could indicate a dryer vent clog.
• Alot of excess lint. If you go to clean you lint trap or you even notice your clothes still have  lint on them, that is also another indicator of a clogged dryer vent.

Having your dryer vent cleaned atleast once a year is standard in keeping your dryer running effeciently. However, if you use your dryer vent more than once or twice a week you should probably have it cleaned twice a year. 

When your dryer is running at its optimal effeciency with low resistance from a clogged vent, you will see that reflected on your electric bill. That is why making sure that your vent is cleaned will ensure that your bill will stay right where you want it. 

Cleaning the lint filter before and after every use will help in keeping the dryer vent from getting clogged. However, if doesnt completly stop the lint from going into the vent, so getting the dryer vent cleaned atleast once a year is important in order to prevent potential house fires. 

While PVC does have many uses and applications, it should not be used for dryer vents. PVC piping can cause a static build up inside the piping and if lint is present in the PVC pipe, the lint can ignite and cause a fire. 

There are some level of prepardness you will need to have before a dryer vent cleaning such as:

• make sure the area is clean and tidy so the techs dont have to work around objects.
• if there are any pets in the home you should keep them secure in a seperate room away from the work area.
• if you have children you may want to take them out of the house until the cleaning process is done as it can be noisy and little ears are very sensitive.
